Description
Daily mental well-being
Therapeutic indications:
Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (IUPAC: 4-aminobutanoic acid), also known by the English acronym GABA (Gamma-AminoButyric Acid), is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian Central Nervous System.
It plays an important role in regulating neuronal excitability throughout the Nervous System. It is an important neurotransmitter, acting as a synaptic neuro inhibitor by binding to specific receptors. As a peculiar neurotransmitter, Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid induces the inhibition of the Central Nervous System (CNS), causing sedation.
Anxiety and nervousness result from the generation of an exaggerated action potential in neurons. GABA passes through synapses and binds to GABA receptors on the next neuron. This binding allows the opening of hyperpolarizing chloride channels in the neuron, thus inhibiting the generation of the action potential in the neuron; the result of this inhibitory effect is a decrease in anxiety, nervousness, and greater ease in falling asleep.
